1. Tuesday Musical Presents the Cleveland Orchestra, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall at University of Akron, 198 Hill St., $25-$45, 330-972-7570, 800-745-3000,

The Tuesday Musical Association continues its celebration of 125 years of bringing music to Akron with its “signature” concert featuring the orchestra led by music director Franz Welser-Moest. It will feature a numerical night of classical music hits including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10.


2. Mo Mojo, 9 p.m. Saturday, Musica, 51 E. Market St., $5,,

A nice precursor to Mardi Gras, this popular high-energy, local Zydeco-based “Partygras” band will play music from its latest album “Together in Love We Drown.”


3. Mountain Rose presents Flipside and Merle Mollenkopf, 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Smith Shelter House of Fred Fuller Park, 497 Middlebury Road, Kent, $7, 330-733-8845,

Local folk music lover “Twistin Tom” Ball will bring Cleveland folk quintet the Flipside to his intimate, informal Mountain Rose Concert series along with poet Mollenkopf.


4. Seventh annual Firefighters’ Chili Challenge, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lock 3 Park, 200 S. Main St., Akron, $5,

Try a variety of chili made by Akron firefighters as they compete with other city departments and local businesses for the very coveted “Most Awesome-est City Government Department or Corporate Sponsored Chili in Akron” award I just invented. $5 gets you four sample cups of chili choose wisely.


5. Rubber City Roller Girls home opener, 5 p.m. Saturday, John S. Knight Center, 77 E. Mill St., Akron. $9, $5 for kids in advance, $13, $6 for kids at the door.

A new year means a new season of chicks beating the hell out of other chicks on roller skates for your entertainment (and their entertainment). Come cheer as Lucy LyncHer, Mae B. Hazardous, Nastalie Beating and their equally threateningly named teammates take on Cleveland’s Burning River Hazmat Crew.
