Equal opportunity and justice

Name: Ophelia Averitt.

Hometown: Akron, born in Demopolis, Ala.

Role: Akron NAACP president and former officer in the state NAACP.

She persists, “Because I see and have seen throughout the years that not everyone is on the same page of having an equal opportunity and equal justice and civil rights, so as long as there is a need, the NAACP has to level the playing field.”

“I have to be mindful of everything going on. It’s a 24/7 job. Everyone is entitled to have a quality life, regardless of race, creed or religion. I grew up in the NAACP. I really enjoy helping people and am thrilled when we can see results.”
