ACCESS Inc., 230 W. Market St., P.O. Box 1007, Akron, OH 44309-1007, provides a supportive environment for homeless mothers and their children and offers housing, advocacy and empowerment programs to help clients develop self-esteem and become self-sufficient.

ACCESS is seeking donors to “adopt” families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Adopting a family for Thanksgiving involves preparing a food basket containing turkey, rolls, corn, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, green beans and stuffing. Adopting a family for Christmas entails buying Christmas presents. Mothers will provide wish lists for their children.

Summa’s Palliative Care & Hospice Services provides support services for terminally ill people and their loved ones.

It is seeking volunteers for its Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at the Acute Palliative Care Unit (Hospice) at Summa Akron City Hospital, 525 E. Market St. Volunteers will prepare side dishes and/or serve patients and families.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving and Christmas days. Minimum age is 18.

American Red Cross of Summit and Portage Counties, 501 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44303-1842, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

It is seeking volunteers to write holiday letters to military members serving at home and abroad for its Holiday Mail for Heroes effort. Volunteers are needed from 2 to 5 p.m. Nov. 27 or 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 29.
