Three wrestlers from area high schools qualified for the NCAA Division I wrestling championships, which will be contested from today through Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
The three competitors are Ohio State redshirt junior Nick Heflin (Perry), North Carolina sophomore Alex Utley (Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Kent State redshirt freshman Sam Wheeler (Copley).
Wheeler and Heflin are wrestling at 174 pounds, and Utley is at 184 pounds. Wheeler and Heflin could compete against each other in the second round if they win first-round matches.
All three won a wrestling state title as a senior in high school.
