Blossom Music Festival premiere of Pixar in Concert features music and film clips from all 13 Pixar films

The Joffrey Ballet will return to the Cleveland Orchestra Blossom Music Festival this summer for the 100th anniversary commemoration of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, which shocked the world in its 1913 Paris premiere. The ballet is the Joffrey’s 1987 reconstruction of original choreography by Vaslav Nijinsky and costumes by Nicholas Roerich.

The Joffrey Ballet, which last performed with the orchestra at Blossom in 2011, will appear Aug. 17 and 18.

This summer’s 19 concerts will include nine with the Cleveland Orchestra. Three — including the orchestra’s opening night July 5 with soprano Luba Orgonášová in her Cleveland Orchestra debut — will be conducted by Music Director Franz Welser-Möst. Orgonášová will perform Strauss’ Four Last Songs. Welser-Möst also will conduct a Beethoven program July 6 and a concert commemorating the 200th anniversary of Wagner’s birth July 13.

In pops music, the Blossom Music Festival premiere of Pixar in Concert will feature music and clips from all 13 Pixar films. The concert, featuring beloved films including Toy Story, The Incredibles and Up, will be conducted by Richard Kaufman.

Also on the Broadway/pops agenda are a premiere performance of the music of Simon & Garfunkel, sung by AJ Swearingen and Jonathan Beedle; and a quintet of Broadway veterans for Broadway’s Leading Men, showcasing the tunes of legendary male leading roles.

Pavilion tickets are $25-$100. Tickets for the lawn and the general admission sections of the pavilion are $20; two children age 18 and younger are admitted with each adult lawn ticket.

Individual tickets go on sale by telephone (216-231-1111, 800-686-1141), at the Severance Hall Ticket Office, and online at www.clevelandorchestra.com on May 28. Blossom Music Center is at 1145 W. Steels Corners Road in Cuyahoga Falls. All artists and programs are subject to change.
